High Tech Hole In One
For this project we studied Civil Rights court cases such as Plessy v. Ferguson, Central Park Five, Loving v. Virginia, etc. as a class and also chose a court case to study individually in groups of 6-7. Using the court case that we chose we created a golf course and included 5 obstacles that represented 5 difficulties within the case. My groups court case was the Scottsboro Boys, a case in which nine African American boys were charged with raping two white women while riding a train. The boys were young, between the ages of 12 and 16 and after they were convicted each served at least six years each.

In addition we also read To Kill A Mockingbird and analyzed its deeper meaning in regards to Civil Rights. We did things such as fill out sheets identifying characteristics of the main characters in the book, class wide reading sessions followed by a discussion on topics such as morals, parenting and racism at a young age.
We ended this project with an exhibition in which parents and other students got to come and play our golf courses using the golf clubs that we made in chemistry. We had a stand in front of our course explaining what court case we were representing and giving a summary of the main details of our case.
