The Happiness Project
The happiness project was created to study the psychological aspect of happiness. We looked at what makes you happy, things such as lifestyle, flow, mindfulness, relationships, etc. We also looked at the other side, depression and sadness and the causes for that. Over the course of the project we learned about many topics and even had guest speakers come in to teach us more about them, but we ultimately had to choose six to do more in depth research on. From these six topics we put together a research binder which included 18 annotated and SOAPSToned articles, and 6 topic papers, that had had at least one direct, cited quote in each. Then, once that was finished we started our final product. Using the research we had already done, we were to manipulate it into either a children's book, a cookbook, a field guide, or a graphic novel. Your book had to include all 6 of your topics and at least one quote per topic.
The thing I am most proud of is my partner and I's final product. We decided to do a children's book about a little boy named Timmy. Timmy is a 7-year old boy who struggles with socializing, stress and being happy. The story is about how he grows and changes throughout the course of a school year and the many new friends he meets along the way. If I could change anything about this experience, it would be that we didn't have a lot of time to create a final product and even though I am very proud of what we created, I know that the deadlines caused a lot of stress for many groups, not only my own.
