99 Seconds of Change
|
The Process:
The first thing we did to begin this project was to individually choose a modern day issue that we would want to change. My topic was Employment for developmentally disabled adults. Once each person had chosen their topic and had it approved by Ross, we started to do research. The goal was to create a fact sheet with specific facts and our opinion so that later on we could write a persuasive business letter to someone in the real world, using the facts that we had learned. I wrote my letter to Target because of their discrimination against hiring disabled employees, I unfortunately got no response. After that we chose partners and decided on one topic to further expand on and create a 99 second video about. Using the fact sheet and any other research we had done we made a 2-column script that did not have to be formal. One column was the audio or what you would hear us say and the other column was the images which would pop up corresponding to the audio. Next we took our script and recorded our voice using Audacity and found our images using Google Images and Flickr. Once we had found all our images, we edited them in Photoshop so that they tied in with our video. After that we imported our audio and our images into Final Cut X and began to edit them. We created animations, added text, and made the images pop up in exact timing with our audio. Once we were done, we uploaded our video to YouTube where we thought of a title, description and tags. Now it is available for everyone to see! Reflection: The most valuable thing that I learned from this project was how to effectively research and use it for multiple purposes, for example my business letter and the video. I believe that my partner and I were successful because we had good communication and had each other work on the things that we were good at so we could progress faster and get more done. My advice for students doing this project in the future is to have a lot of research done in case you need to add more, and to of course manage your time wisely. It's better to finish earlier in case you need to go back and fix things. I really appreciated how Chris was available to always help us and be there to answer our questions whether big or small. He also told us specifically what we need to fix and allowed us to do that to improve our grade. Overall I really enjoyed this project and cannot think of anything that would make it any better. I'm proud of the final product we created and can't wait for other people to watch it! |
